All Heythrop students are members of Heythrop Students’ Union (HSU) as well as the National Union of Students (NUS) and Student Central (the University of London Union). For the academic year 2017/18 there are two part-time Co-Presidents.
2017/18 Executive Team
The HSU organizes events throughout the year. In the recent past this has included ‘Heyfest’ at the start of the academic year and annual Summer and Winter Balls (the last one of which was on a boat!). In term time, you can join us for other outings including pub crawls, comedy nights, walking tours as well as trips to see live music gigs. Last year we also organised themed events such as the American Night and a Murder Mystery Night. We were proud to host a TEDx conference and organised a selection of guest lectures to support students, for example on Financial Awareness and Motivation.
We have a wide-range of societies and interest groups you can join such as:
- Baking Society
- Lion Newspaper
- Games Society
- Pokemon Society
All are free to join, but some like the football club have a small joining fee. If you can’t find a society that meets your interests, you can always start your own!
The HSU Basement is the hub of the Union's work and activities. This social space is managed by the HSU for students to use; the main areas are the Common Room/ HSU Bar, The Cave, The Reading Room and the Nest. Go to relax, study, play pool or table football, watch TV, or have a drink with friends in the evenings. The HSU Advice Centre is the students first point of call for information and is manned by two full time staff - HSU Manager and Student Experience Officer, the part time President and Vice President and the members of the exec during their allocated office hours. The HSU also runs a shop with Heythrop-branded merchandise. Their office is next to the Common Room.
University of London Union
All Heythrop students are members of Student Central based in Bloomsbury. Students can take advantage of their facilities such as their meeting spaces, legal advice, careers service, bars, cafes, gym and swimming pool. In particular our students are highly involved in the 26 sport teams which offer a chance to meet students from other colleges and learn a new sport.
Here to represent you
The HSU represents the student body at Heythrop meetings and committees, and more widely in Student Central and the NUS. Their work on previous campaigns brought local and national press attention to the issues; though we are a smaller student body, we have a loud voice in these larger unions. To get in touch with any questions or concerns, call 02077954215 or email the Presidents at
Join them on Facebook and Twitter for updates on the latest happenings. The HSU website can be found at www.heythropsu.co.uk
